Firman thanks Indonesia fans

Jakarta: Indonesia skipper Firman Utina has expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian public for helping to inspire the Merah Putih to reach this year's AFF Suzuki Cup final.
Speaking after his side downed Philippines 2-0 on aggregate to set up a final showdown against Malaysia, the Indonesia midfield general made it a special point to thank the fans, who have displayed their usual passionate support for their side at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium throughout the current campaign.
"First of all, I want to thank the people of Indonesia for their tremendous support in this tournament. It has provided us with the inspiration that has helped us to reach the final," said Firman, who turned 29 last Wednesday.
"Our aim is always to play our best for our team and for our nation. We are all in good physical shape and we are well prepared for the tournament although– there are some weaknesses that we must overcome before the next game."
But while the loud and passionate support has helped to inspire the Indonesian side, Firman admitted that the constant din at the stadium has, at times, had an adverse effect on the team with the players committing errors after being unable to communicate effectively on the pitch.

"Some of our mistakes came out as a result of a lack of concentration that was caused by the overwhelming noise in the stadium," he said.
"Because the crowd was so loud, there were times in the match when we couldn't communicate properly."

Still committed to attack

Indonesia assistant coach Wolfgang Pikal has insisted that his side will not be adopting a defensive attitude to protect their one-goal advantage when they face the Philippines in the second leg of their AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Sunday.
Cristian Gonzales' first-half-header has given the hosts a precious 1-0 advantage going into the return match. But according to Pikal, that is unlikely to change the attacking philosophy of the Indonesian side for the second leg.
"We have a team which is attack-minded and we like to play an open game," said the Austrian.
"We don't forget to defend, of course, but because we're playing at home, we also feel that we have the responsibility to our fans to play an open game."
While Vietnam coach Henrique Calisto blasted the defensive approach of the Filipino side after his side lost 2-0 to the Azkals earlier in the tournament, Pikal believes that his opponents are perfectly within their rights to play that way.
"I think that the Philippines team is very good and how they play is the choice of their coach.
"If they want to play defensively then we have nothing to complain about – after all in the UEFA Champions League, Inter Milan played at the back for 90 minutes against Barcelona and nobody complained. They can play how they want and nobody should complain.
"They also have some good players and we will have to try to anticipate their qualities."
Pikal did reveal that his team have a couple of fitness concerns heading into the match with skipper Firman Utina and striker Irfan Bachdim nursing injuries.
"Firman Utina and Irfan Bachdim have had slight knocks and some problems. But our physio has been working very hard to make them fit. We still have 30 hours to go before the game so we will evaluate them and make a decision on whether they will play by lunchtime tomorrow."
Having won all four of their games so far in the tournament, Indonesia are the favourites to reach the final and win it all. However, Pikal feels that the expectations now being weighed on the team by the Indonesian media and public may not be in the best interests of the players.
"The expectations now are very high," he lamented. "There was no reason at the beginning of the tournament for such high expectations because we haven't won anything in Indonesia for a long time.
"But we started very well and it's like a snowball effect because all of the media – not only the sports media but the entertainment and celebrity channels – have hitched up on it and they've fired up the whole thing. I think it is not good for the players.

Skuad Garuda akan menjadi tamu pada leg pertama putaran Final pila AFF 2010 yang akan di Jamu di Stadion Nasional Bukit Jalil, Tim nasional Malaysia sudah lebih dahulu menunggu di Final AFF, Tim Nasioanal Maslaysia berhasil mengalahkan tim Nasional Vietnam dengan agregat 2-0. yang pada leg pertama laga kandang putaran semi final  berhasil mengalahkan Vietnam 2-0, pada laga kedua laga tandang  bermain tanpa gol 0-0, dengan hasil itu Malaysia melenggang ke putaran Final dan bertemu  kembali dengan TimNas Indonesia yang pada pertemuan pertama piala AFF berhasil mengalahkan TimNas Malaysia 5-1....

Awal yang baik untuk TimNas Indonesia setelah sukses membekuk Timnas Philipine meski dengan skor tipis 1-0 dalam leg pertama 16/12/2010, disaksikan 80 ribu lebih suporter yang memadati Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) dan Presiden RI, anak asuh Alfred Riedl membuktikan tampil lebih baik d ari tim Nasional Philipine yang diperkuat oleh sembilan orang pemain naturalisasi, Philipine yang kali pertama dalam ajang piala AFF masuk keputaran semi final dan memberikan perlawanan cukup sengit.
Cristian Gonzales pencetak gol tunggal untuk Indonesia pada menit ke 31 yang mampu memaksimalkan dan memanfaatkan kesalahan kiper Philipine yang tidak dapat menghalau bola lambung umpan Firman Utina yang langsung disundul Oleh Cristian El-Loco Gonzales yang langsung mengoyak jala gawang Philipines yang di jaga oleh kiper ke tiga Fulham fc.
Gol semata wayang tersebut bertahan hingga babak kedua usai, tercatat beberapa kali pemain The Azkals Oung Husband berseudara sempat membahayakan gawang Markus Horison yang hampir saja membuahkan gol, untug Markus masih bisa meyelamatkan gawangnya dari ancaman tedangan keras pemain Naturalisasi  Philip Husband.

Pelatih tim sepak bola nasional Indonesia, Alfred Riedl menyatakan perhatian luar bisa dari Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudoyono (SBY) tak akan menjadi tekanan tersendiri baginya dan anak asuhnya, dalam menghadapi semifinal Piala AFF 2010 di stadion Glora Bung Karno, 16 desember mendatang, "Tekanan itu ada pada diri saya sendiri, sehingga permintaan Presiden agar jangan tertekan sudah bisa dilakukan, katanya saat seusai sesi latihan sore di lapangan latihan TimNas kemarin.

Kedatangan SBY menurut Riedl justru memacu semangat semua orang di Tim untuk melakukan persiapan lebih baik dan menunjukan prestasi yang lebih baik lagi. " Kami sangat senang bisa didatangi Presiden, itu menunjukan perhatian yang lebih besar pada sepak bola ," katanya.

Begitupula yang diungkapkan Kapten TimNas Firman Utina secara psikologis tidak terbebani lantaran perhatian masyarakat yang luar biasa.

Mereka sangat mengharapkan Tim Merah Putih dapat menjadi juara di turnamen sepak bola paling bergengsi di asia tenggara tersebut, Firman juga menganggap bahwa kunjungan Presiden itu sebagai motivasi untuk menambah semangat Tim Nasional Indonesia. yang terpenting saat ini adalah menjalani latihan menghadapi partasi semifinal nanti. "Kami akan tampil sekuat tenaga dan sebaik mungkin " katanya.

Jumat pekan lalu hampir seribuan masyarakat jakarta mengelilingi pagar lapangan menyaksikan tim kesayangan  mereka latihan di kompleks GBK.
